What should I do about two mountain bikes in a neighbor’s junk pile?
June 28th, 2008 | by admin |EthenC asked:
When I was leaving for work this morning, I noticed my neighbor across the street was cleaning their garage, and had put out a small junk pile on the curb that had a couple of nice mountain bikes in it that interested me. I can’t go over and knock on their door because I don’t get home from work until 11 or 12 at night. (I don’t think they would appreciate someone banging on their door at that time of night.) The trash pickup is tomorrow morning. Should I just walk across the street and take the bikes when I get home from work? I know it’s in a junk pile, but to me it just doesn’t seem right to just take it without them knowing. Maybe I could get some advice on what to do?
Well, I can’t do it during the day because I’m at work currently.

If they don’t want them (clearly,) why not go get them? Reusing is eco-friendly, afterall.

If you want to be polite, ask. Just say ” I saw those bikes in your junk pile. If you are just going to throw them away, may I have them?” Never hurts to be polite.

take them before someone else does. Leave a note under their door that you have taken them & explain your interest in them & also let them know your home too late to ask. Tell them if they are annoyed you will put them back in the junk pile ASAP.
